The custom-built cabinet for a 55-gallon fish tank is made to be extremely sturdy.

The cabinets that you can purchase in an aquatics center are not only expensive, but they usually don’t have much support, only a flimsy plywood frame. The problem is that when you fill in the tank with water, gravel, decoration, etc., it becomes very heavy and even a tiny deformation on the frame will cause a crack in the tank, possibly flooding your home and losing all your fish.

This cabinet is built to last! Besides the plywood covering there is a construction framing inside made by 2”x4” studs. You can stack 50 fish tanks filled with water on top of each other, and this cabinet still won’t bend. We also made the cabinet higher than the conventional cabinets wold in the stores, as the customer wanted not to squad whenever looking at the fish.

The cabinet features solid soft-close doors, two built-in drawers, storage shelves for canister filters and other accessories, a large hood that opens up for easy maintenance, embedded lighting, electric supply, and piping. All the pipes and cables are hidden behind and underneath the tank. The cabinet pieces are finished with a whitewash effect that lightens the wood while still showing its grain. We finished it with high-durability marine varnish so that water spills wouldn’t damage the cabinet.
